The man, the myth, the legend

So the year was 1999 and I decided to work at the local ballpark for the summer since we had a new semi-pro baseball team. I worked in a concessions trailer making popcorn and nachos, and basically enjoying myself. I got called back the second season to work as the person in charge of the beer hawkers, they would get their product from me, I would write it down, figure out when we needed to order more beer, and cash them out at the end of the night. It got crazy some nights but I liked it, felt like I was more than just a standard employee. I decided not to come back the 3rd season, which turned out to be the last season that league would play. Jump forward a year or two, and a new league with new teams emerged, and once again we had baseball in my town, so I decided to go for it and see if I couldn't get on board to make a little extra money in the summer. I spent part of the season selling the parking passes, and the rest of the season as an usher. When it came time for the second season to start I was approached about taking on the role as the "personality" of the ballpark, someone who would get on the microphone to announce all the promos and events that happened in-between innings. I did that for a little while, but got moved to being a merchandise hawker (a move that was done behind my supervisors back and made several fans upset because they thought I was better than my future replacements). I didn't mind the move much, I got to mix and mingle with the crowd, and the hours suited me better. I made the official decision that this would be my last year as a ballpark worker, after four seasons I decided to hang it all up and worked my last game 2 nights ago. 4 seasons, various different duties, two teams, and several different supervisors, felt like I was out there for longer than the 4 summers I spent there.

Old commercial

I know this is a little "old school", but here it goes:

2 tickets to Jesus Jam 2006: $20
1 diet soda, 1 water, and 1 giant pretzel: $8
2 t-shirts: $10

Getting to see an awesome God influenced concert, hear an awesome testimony, see an amazing alter call, and being reminded of how awesome God has been in your own life: PRICELESS.

To all my hometown people who were also at the concert: Rock on!!

I'm still alive and well

In between working two jobs (one a 9 to 5, the other a side job that ends in a week), attending church, and becoming a new member of the church drama team, I have kinda let this blog fall to the wayside. It is not that I don't have much to say, I just sometimes suffer from "writerus lazyus", or being too lazy to update every now and then. I felt kinda good about what I did today, kinda came out of my shell at both work and after work. For starters I found myself in a position at work were I needed to step up and get people to get organized and work as a team, and at the same time roll up my own sleeves and dig in. We all got the job done and I felt good about it, especially since no one got seriously injured. After work I stuck to a statement/promise I made to be free Wednesday night to attend the meeting at church for the drama group, even though my manager from the ballpark was telling me I was going to have to go in and work tonight at the ballpark. I told him the other day that I wasn't going to show, and I left my phone in the car when I went to the meeting. The way I see it, its just a ballgame, I felt that putting a church activity first was more important. Call me crazy but even though my action tonight could get me canned from a summer job I just felt that I should instead give my time to something that will be an offering to God and give a positive message to a crowd.
