Reminders

First off, my apologies for the long gap between this post and the last, on Thursday night I had to move my computer so some remodeling could be done. I was watching a few minutes of "The Incredibles" this weekend, and something said in the movie made me stop and think. One of the characters says something like "I never look back, it distracts from the here and now". It reminded me of the fact that in the bible we are told that we shouldn't try to keep looking back at past mistakes and failures because it distracts us from what we are trying to do now, and what is in the past is done and over with already, there is no way we can change anything about it now. Not sure if I made much a point with this, but I felt like sharing how I think God used a movie to give me a small reminder of what He has in His word.

Takahishi chapter 5

Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4

Chapter 5: Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Taka was cooking now, he approached the turn around point and with a downshift, a little bit of the e-brake, and some fancy steering he was now ready to go back through the course. There was no stopping him or slowing down, he made quick work of 2nd gear, rolled off 3rd in what seemed like no time at all, and then started to climb through 4th. With each passing second he was gaining on the Neon, and this was starting to annoy Tony. Has Taka was closing the gap Tony checked his rearview mirrors, and once again was in awe and disbelief that this little econo-box of a car could be catching him. "All right freak boy", Tony thought to himself, "You want to play then you better bring it." The two of them where nose to tail entering the S section for the last time, Tony in the lead and Taka right on his bumper. Tony thought for sure that he had the advantage at this point because he was built with better handling, but as he pushed himself through the S turns as quick as he could he saw that Taka hung right with him. "What is going on!?!?!" Tony yelled to himself, "This is an embarrassment, I will not lose to this pile of parts!" One straightaway left to go, then the curve, then the straightaway back into the crowd. Tony still had the lead, but Taka was dangerously close behind, then it happened. Taka floored it and pulled to the right, and slowly started to creep up even with Tony. Tony saw this and was immediately angered, and he vowed that he would not let up one bit. "If I can get through the last turn before he does, I can still win this". Last turn was quickly approaching, both cars side by side, neither one of them backing down.

Coming soon: Last chapter! Chapter 6: It's all or nothing.

You know what?

You know what is sad? When sometimes I have to be exposed to something or have something happen to me or around me to realize how important/special some things in my life are. I guess it is human nature to start to take certain things for granted, but how far is too far? What really gets me is sometimes the things that I seem to be reminded on are things that I shouldn't have been taking for granted, I should always be reminding myself of the importance these things have in my life. Oh well, maybe one of these days I will start to learn from my mistakes. In other news I believe I promised a new chapter of my Takahishi story. Its all written up and ready to go, just need to copy/paste it onto my blog this week. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Putting time on paper

A while back I talked about W-2's, and how mine reflected over the past year I worked at various different jobs. Well, I made the discovery that during the past year I have neglected my resume, so I had to spend a few hours over 2 days adding in all the information I was missing. Adding a little over a year's worth of job titles, duties, and responsibilities is not fun. Stay in school kids, and always keep your resume up to date. This has been a public service announcement.

Welcome back

I know I didn't post much over the weekend, so here I am bright and early on Monday morning to give my thoughts and views on everything and anything. First off I think my brain is aging about twice as fast as my real age. I say this because I think I am getting senile already, I'll admit I have problems remembering things but it seems to be getting worse. When I was halfway to work this morning I realized I forgot to bring my cell phone, this weekend I forgot that a walk-a-thon I am participating in is coming up so I dropped the ball as the team captain to get a few things done before it happens, etc. One of these days I am going to wake up and forget where I placed my head, that day should be really fun. Went to see a Christian rap concert last night at my church put on by Price Paid Records, very talented guys who were not ashamed to stand up and tell people that Jesus is everything. Well, that is all for now, maybe this week I will post the next chapter of my story and anything else that might be entertaining.

All I can say is wow

My favorite weekend of the year (or at least one of my favorites) came up this past weekend, the annual classic car show put on in my hometown. It was the 14th year they have done it, and they limit the number of cars to 850 (registration for the next years show usually fills up by the last day of the show). So many nice cars, so little time. I checked out the parade on Friday evening and went looking for cars that night, I went to the main show Saturday, and went back again Saturday night. I took a ton of pictures, and I have been selecting and resizing about 100 of them to post online, once I get it all done I will post the link on here. In other news, well, I don't have much other news.

Reality is funnier then fiction

Ok, so last weekend I was driving around town after going to the block party downtown. I was waiting at a red light and I decided to look around and noticed that the lane next to me was empty even though there was a line of cars behind me. Then I saw a car pull up, a white newer VW Jetta, and since I was looking over I happened to make eye contact with the driver. Well, I faced forward and continued to wait for the green light when all of a sudden I heard what sounded like an engine being revved right next to me. I guess vee dub boy thought that since I happened to look in his direction I wanted to race. I was not about to go for it, my car is slow and there where more cops out then usual, but I still decided t have a little bit of fun by rolling up my passenger side window showing him I wasn't interested in hearing his German engineered 4 banger. Light goes green and I take my time accelerating up to the speed limit, but guess who stayed right beside me keeping the same pace? Vee dub boy kept rolling right beside me, speeding up a little bit then backing off, still trying to get me to race. Finally he down shifted and floored it for a second or two and then gave up on trying to call me out. I just laughed and turned off the street. I wonder if he told all his buddies that a mustang was too scared to line up against his stock beast.

Kinda makes you scratch your head

I was reading a truck magazine the other day, and there was a tech story of a box style Chevy truck that was being updated a little bit so it could be handed over to a first time driver. They pointed out many key issues that needed to be addressed so the truck was safe for a newer driver, like brakes, suspension, and a reliable engine. It got me thinking that I should consider myself lucky because the first car I drove after getting my license was anything but safe and good for a first time driver. First off it was never built with driver safety in mind, it was built rigid and heavy, so a good hit to it would probably send the driver flopping around inside the cab. It had drum brakes all around that would lock up if you got on them too hard. It had an engine that was pretty reliable, but sometimes finicky, and took forever to get the vehicle to move. I guess having to master that truck made me better on some level. The fact it was a heavy with some loose steering meant I had to be careful about making any sudden lane changes, and the brakes not being ABS had me more on the lookout for anyone coming to a stop or crossing paths with me. The fact that it took forever to get moving kept me from taking chances and taught me to be patient in traffic, and to be kinder to other people whose car's where a little slow as well. Why I wrote all this, I dunno, I am a car guy.
